Removal of enlarged breast glands in men (Gynecomastia)

An enlarged mammary gland in men can have several causes. The most common is hormonal, specifically estrogens, which are excessively formed especially during puberty and old age. Overweight also plays a role, where fat is deposited in the breast area, among other areas. With gynecomastia, your breast glands and excess fat will be removed either by liposuction, surgery (Subcutaneous Mastectomy) or a combination of both methods.

Before surgery 

A personal consultation is required before any aesthetic surgery. In the case of removal of the mammary gland, it is advisable to undergo an endocrinological and ultrasound breast examination. For several weeks before the procedure, do not take medications that affect blood clotting and try not to smoke. 

The course of the operation 

In the case of small gynecomastia, liposuction, suctioning the fatty tissue of the breasts using local anaesthesia, is chosen. In the case of more extensive gland enlargement, a small incision is made around the circumference of the breast areola under general anaesthesia, after which the gland is removed. The scar remains slight. Larger problems are combined with breast surgery and liposuction. After general anesthesia, the patient is hospitalized for 1-2 days. 

After the operation 

It is necessary to observe 10 days of rest after surgery. Swelling and bruising may occur, which will subside after a short time. Postoperative compression underwear must be worn for 5-6 weeks and can be purchased from us. We recommend starting sports from the 4th week. 

For a period of 6 weeks, you can undergo therapy on an LPG machine or lymphatic drainage to accelerate healing.

Important information 

The removal of the mammary gland, called gynecomastia, is permanent. A full physical regime is possible 5 weeks after the operation. Elastic compression underwear, which reduces swelling and speeds healing after the procedure, must always be kept clean.
